Ministry Committees, which are primarily task groups within the organizational structure
of the church, will:
assist program staff members with their various areas of responsibility;
set goals which support the vision and direction of the church and are consistent
with the Philosophy of Ministry;
provide regular reports of their work to Session;
consist of church members who are called into ministry by the staff liaison and/or
by the committee itself;
ask its members to serve three-year terms;
typically meet each month between September and June;
elect their own chairperson;
use the facilitative leadership model, finding an appropriate balance between "love,
learn, decide, do," the four components of a small group.
Descriptions:
Audio/Visual Committee - The members operate the various sound systems for
church services and special events. Special events are frequently video taped,
and closed circuit video is provided for overflow on Christmas and Easter. This
committee meets the first and third Saturdays each month at 8:30 am. Those
interested in audio/video, with a willingness to learn and time to provide the service
to the church, are welcome to join the group. Contact: John Herndon at 630-653-1338
or johnherndon@comcast.net.
Buildings and Grounds Committee - This committee is responsible for the
upkeep and maintenance of the church property. This involves overseeing the
Facilities Manager and the Cleaning Staff. We also approve expenditures needed
for property improvement. Contact: Randy Foster at 630-653-2612 or rfoster411@att.net.
Celebration Service Planning Team - This committee seeks to glorify God
through worship that is participatory and multi-sensory, relevant and engaging to
all generations. Everyone who attends and enjoys our Celebration Services, which
are held on the second Sunday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in the Ministry Center,
is invited to join our creative planning team. If you have ideas, energy, and
the desire to participate in meaningful contemporary worship planning, please join
us on the third Tuesday evening of each month in LL107 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Children's Ministry Team - The team's purpose is to provide, for the children
in our congregation, opportunities for Christian nurture through worship, education,
and fellowship. It is our hope that through these experiences they can develop relationships
with the triune God and with other Christians, and learn over time to be a follower
of Christ. The team meets the first Friday of the month from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Contacts: Angela Stephenson and
(630-668-5147).
Communications Ministry Committee - This committee's mission is to communicate
the church's message to members and non-members throughout DuPage County and beyond
through various venues, including written materials, communications with newspapers,
advertising, and the website. This committee meets the second Wednesday each
month at 7:30 p.m. Contact: Ron
Hands.
Due to the time and energy it takes to maintain a website, the Web Team,
which is a subcommittee of the Communications Committee, was formed to not only gather
information for the site but also to provide the technical expertise needed to maintain
a website. The Web Team meets the fourth Sunday each month at 7:00 p.m. in
the dining room. Webmaster: Ed
Ballard,
630-668-8741.
Gifts & Memorials Committee - This committee's purpose is to honor
church members by their prayerful and prudent use of donations. Gifts are used
to augment worship, enhance study, aid in Mission Outreach, and add beauty and greater
function to the facilities. Contact:
(630-668-5147).
Human Resources Committee (HRC) - The HRC is an advisory group to Session
on personnel matters. The HRC makes recommendations to Session on employee
benefits, policies, conflict resolution, staffing plans, salaries, personnel budget
and other personnel matters. An HRC member serves on all search committees.
Session has delegated the responsibility for conflict resolution to the HRC. The
HRC conducts annual staff interviews to determine the "joys and concerns" of
each staff member. HRC meets at the church the third Tuesday of the month.

Interpretation of Stewardship Committee - The mission of the Interpretation
of Stewardship Committee is to interpret the Word of God regarding our individual
lives on this earth and the use of our individual time, talent, and resources. We
develop and carry out the Church’s annual pledge program, provide material
for the newsletter and bulletin, deliver testimonials through Minutes for Stewardship
during worship, and provide a Stewardship Recognition Award for individuals who have
provided exemplary service to the Church.
The committee members enjoy working together in searching for new ways to communicate
our mission to the congregation. We meet on the second Thursday of the month
in the church dining room from 7:30 - 9 pm. Anyone who would care to join our committee
is welcome. Contact: Denny Lawson.
Investment Committee - This committee invests church funds (including
endowment, designated, and operating funds) as both stewards of God’s gifts
and as a financial fiduciary. The primary investment objective is to preserve and
prudently grow the financial assets of the Church by earning a return, which corresponds
to each fund’s objectives, time horizon, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance.
Session has delegated its investment authority to the Investment Committee through
their Investment Policy. This policy, applicable laws and regulations, and prayer
guide the Investment Committee.
Three members of the committee are appointed by Session to staggered three-year
terms, and currently two members serve as liaisons from the Office and Finance Committee
and the Interpretation and Stewardship Committee. The church’s Business Administrator
is an ex-officio member.
The Investment Committee meets at least quarterly on the fourth Thursday of January,
April, July, and October. Contact: Phil Slocum (630-690-0319 or email Slocum@cboe.com).
Mission Outreach Committee - Interested in learning more about the mission
programs of our church? This committee is responsible for the development, awareness,
and involvement of mission in the congregation. If you have compassion for people
in need and would like to help plan and carry out these mission opportunities, give
some thought to joining this committee. MOC meets at the church the second
Monday evening of each month. Contact: Tom Boynton, committee chair.
Office and Finance Committee: The Office and Finance Committee monitors
and reviews all financial activity of the church. Annually we prepare the church
budget for submission to Session for their approval. As needed the Committee
prepares accounting procedures and policies. The committee meets the second Monday
of each month at 7:30 p.m. Contact: Mike Huesing (630-462-9209 or email mhuesing@comcast.net).
Pathways (Adult Education) Committee - This committee is responsible for
organizing the adult education programs throughout the year in addition to several
fellowship events. If you would like to get involved as either a member of
the Leadership Team or as an Instructor, please contact
(630-668-5147).
Red Carpet (formerly Hospitality Committee) - This committee explores
and examines ways in which our congregation can answer its scriptural call to hospitality
and help visitors feel welcome in a church home. We facilitate the new member
course "Believing, Belonging, Becoming" as part of the Pathways education
program. Through
individual connection and information sharing we assist new members in their assimilation
into the life of the church. We are committed to educating ourselves regarding
the meaning and practice of hospitality so we may guide the members of First Presbyterian
Church of Wheaton in the discernment of their responsibilities when we proclaim "We
welcome you as we would welcome Christ himself." We are also providing
opportunities for church-wide fellowship activities to facilitate relationships and
a sense of belonging and connection in the body of Christ. If you are interested
in this exciting ministry, please contact Roseanne
Houle by telephone at 630-222-1917 or by email at drhoule@comcast.net.
Visual Arts Committee - this committee isresponsible for creating new ways to visually praise God. We do this by using flowers and decorations appropriate for the season and theme; constructing banners to fit the theme of worship, thereby making the message more visual and easier to remember; displaying artwork in the Rotunda that represents the experience of God's presence in our lives; and transforming the Ministry Center from a gym into a place of worship. Our committee is comprised of people who enjoy interior decorating, sewing, construction, flower arranging, and brainstorming ways to make things visually pleasing. We meet on the 2nd Tues. evening of the month at 7:30, and we're always looking for creative people to join us! Contact: Beth Burgess
Worship Coordinating Committee - The Worship Coordinating Committee consists of the Program staff, the Music Director, a Session Representative and four Lay people. This Committee meets once a month or as needed.
The purpose of the Worship Coordinating Committee is to oversee the logistical preparation of the Heritage and Tapestry Sunday morning worship services, to envision and implement creative companion pieces to the worship themes of the Sunday morning worship experience and to educate the committee and the congregation about Reformed Worship Services (why we do worship the way we do).
The Worship Coordinating Committee oversees all the Committees that make the Sunday Worship Services happen - Audio/Visual, Ushers, Communion Preparers, Communion Servers, Shepherd Company, Visual Arts. This group is called The Umbrella Team.
While the Worship
Planning Committee is not open to membership growth, all of the subcommittees that
the Worship Coordinating Committee works with are looking to expand their memberships.
