Angel Tree is a ministry to the children of prisoners. It is one of several programs that is a part of Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship Ministries. Angel Tree was started back in 1982. It has served millions of children over the years and over half a million at Christmas, 2003.

The following are some suggestions for individual volunteers in this Mission. It will give you some idea of our needs and how you may contribute and serve in this mission outreach as part of First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, IL.

Christmas: This is the main project of Angel Tree. During the Christmas season, stop by our angel tree and choose a child's wish list. Each child will receive a clothing item and a fun gift from us, on behalf of their parent in prison. The children will also receive a staying connected pack from our congregation that contains stationary, stamps, and a disposable camera, so the children can stay in contact with their imprisoned parent. In addition, the children will receive age-appropriate ministry materials and a Bible. Another volunteer opportunity during Christmas is helping out at the Angel Tree party, when the children receive their gifts. You can help by making food for the party, playing games with the children, performing, setting up and cleaning up, or providing transportation.

Easter: For Easter, we send Easter baskets out to the children. You can help by donating money for the baskets and for shipping. Also, a I small group can volunteer to help assemble the baskets.

Summer Camping: Members of our congregation can sponsor Angel Tree children to attend Christian summer camps. Watch the bulletin for more information.

Back to School Care Packages: We can help these children and their families, by giving them school supplies and other back to school materials. Watch the bulletin for more information.

Mentoring: You can provide one-on-one support for an Angel Tree child. Mentors must go through a screening process and receive training.
