The City of Wheaton has honored two of our members for their long years of service on the Community Relations Commission. Ruth Chambliss and John O’Melia served the city faithfully to foster understanding and promote amicable relations among all persons and groups in the community.

At the Community Relations Commission meeting at Wheaton's City Hall on February 4, 2009, Mayor Michael Gresk presented each of them with a Proclamation declaring that February 4, 2009 was “Ruth Chambliss Day” and “John O’Melia Day” in the City of Wheaton.
The photo on the left was taken at this meeting. Ruth Chambliss and Michael Gresk are standing, and John O'Melia is seated.

Following the meeting a reception was held at The Bank Restaurant with the Mayor, Council members, and guests attending. The photo below of Martha and John O'Melia and Ruth and Gordon Chambliss was taken at this reception.

John O'Melia (seated) and Ruth Chambliss (standing to his left) are pictured in the following two photos, which were taken at the Wheaton City Council meeting on May 5, 2008, in which the Community Relations Commission awarded the winners of the 2008 Good Citizen Awards.

The black and white photo on the left showing John O'Melia (seated) and Ruth Chambliss (standing to his left) appeared in the City of Wheaton Newsletter for March - April 2009 with an article requesting nominations for Good Citizen Awards.
