Wednesday Faith Builders
September 2009
Our September Wednesday night program has returned for 2009! On the Wednesdays of September 2, 9, 16, and 23, everyone is invited to join us for dinner, music, classes, and fellowship! Dinner is from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. Worship, music, and singing in the Sanctuary follow our meal, and the classes for adults and activities for children are from 7:00 - 7:45 p.m.
Over 100 people attended the first Wednesday Faith Builders session on September 2, 2009. Denny Lawson and Sherry and Neal Halleran cooked up a wonderful dinner which we shared with about 28 members of the Naperville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After dinner the group met in the Sanctuary for a short worship service.

The Parenting class and the sports group proceeded to their classes while the majority stayed for Jay's study Harvesting our Common Humanity: A Spiritual Conversation Between a Presbyterian and Mormon. This is an informal conversation between our Dr. Jay Moses and Bishop Greg Brim, Mormon Bishop of Wheaton. This casual introduction to some of the common beliefs of the two groups, as well as their differences, was followed by a question and answer session which whetted everyone's appetite to hear more about the faith journeys of each of these two denominations. Three more Wednesday evening sessions are planned and are eagerly anticipated by those attending this introductory session.
At 7:00 p.m. children Grades K - 3 are offered activities planned by Sports Ministries Inc., and Grades 4 - 8 will have an opportunity to lead Worship. This will involve music, drama, and scripture. The group will be adapted to fit the gifts of the participants that sign up. Also, if there is interest, the ensemble will prepare percussion music for World Communion Sunday Worship Services on Sunday, October 4. Please contact David Lincoln with any questions about this program.
Also at 7:00 p.m. Diane Overgard is presenting the class Let's Talk Parenting: 4 Bible Characters Every Family
Should Meet. This class will allow you to explore God’s plan for you as a parent,
understand unique challenges for you and your child, and find insights for real life in
the Bible with non-threatening, practical Bible study that is fun!
Reservations for dinner are required by calling the church office at 630-668-5147, and the cost is $6 per person with a $20 family maximum. Please call to RSVP for children’s activities as well. RSVP cards are also in the pews. Babysitting is available if requested at the time of your call.
The photos below were taken on September 2, 2009. Dr. Paul Kirbas, was master of ceremonies for the dinner. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship shared between the Mormons and Presbyterians at dinner as well as the delicious food.
Our thanks to Bob Stevens for the photos and information!
