Afrizo
September 27, 2009

Afrizo, a musical group from Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, performed in a concert held in our church Sanctuary at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009.  Their music is a mixture of east, central, and south African traditions.  The concert was free, but good-will donations to support Daystar University were accepted.  Afrizo's goal for their U.S. tour is to raise $350,000 for scholarships to send promising young people to college who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Afrizo also sang during the 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. worship services on September 27, 2009.

The afternoon concert included drums, piano, and guitar music and three costume changes.  The lead singer also came down the aisle for audience participation.  Videos of life at Daystar were also shown.

Following the concert attendees and Afrizo members enjoyed fellowship at a reception in the Rotunda, along with treats provided by Kathryn Gould.  Afrizo shirts and CDs were available for purchase.  This was Afrizo's second tour of the United States and second visit to First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.  They previously were here on October 2, 2007.

Our thanks to Bob Stevens and Dick Mitchell for the above photos, which were taken during and following the Afrizo concert and to Bob Stevens for the information!
