Catch the Spirit Sunday - September 7, 2008

Catch the Spirit Sunday was the name of our fall homecoming Sunday on September 7, 2008.  This is the Sunday when we return to our three-service schedule, with worship services at 7:30, 8:40, and 11:00 a.m., and an Education Hour from 9:55 to 10:50 a.m.

This year Sunday School classes began on September 7, and a Connections Expo was held in the Ministry Center during the Education Hour, with adult education classes scheduled to begin on September 14, 2008.

At the Connections Expo members of the committees and groups in our church had displays highlighting their activities in the church and the enjoyment that current participants are having in doing that work and providing an opportunity to invite other members of the congregation to join them.  Our Genesis Bake Sale was also held at this same time between the two later worship services.

Our Centennial Celebration kickoff was our annual picnic organized by our Deacons from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. that same afternoon, with fun, fellowship, and, of course, food enjoyed by everyone.  Games for all ages and fun activities (face painting, cake walk, and moon bounce, to name a few) began at 3:00 p.m.; and dinner was served beginning at 4:00 p.m.  In addition to the food prepared by our Deacons, people brought a dish to pass - salads for those with last names beginning with A through O, and desserts for those with last names beginning with P through Z.  Our new First Pres Centennial T-Shirts were also available, along with Note Cards created using photos and artwork provided by some of our talented church members.

Our church looked very festive with balloons, banners, and our Centennial Logo. The banner on the left says, "1909 Celebrating Our Past."  The right one shows, "2009 Believing in Our Future."

Rotunda
The Rotunda had signs directing everyone to the Ministry Center for the Connections Expo.

Buildings and Grounds
Displays for the Buildings and Grounds and Visual Arts Committees were ready.
Genesis Bake Sale People coming into the Ministry Center

The Genesis Bake sale items were ready, just outside the door to the Ministry Center.  All monies earned are going towards a bike for Scovia, Genesis' adopted child from Uganda through Compassion International.

Below is the display from our Caritas Ministry.  Jeanne Kovanda is on the far left.

Coffee and lemonade being served by the deacons were also just outside the door to the Ministry Center.

As soon as the 8:40 a.m. service ended, people came into the Ministry Center for our Connections Expo.

The Stewardship display - Faith in Action - is above.

Below, Millie Birkemeier and Helen White provide information about our church libraries.

The Supper Club display shows photos from the trip to the Holy Land that will be presented at the next supper.

Our usher teams are looking for additional members willing to participate.
