Genesis Retreat - February 7-9, 2003
47 Middle schoolers (grades
6 through 8) and 7 adult leaders went to the WinterXtreme
2003 winter retreat at Timber-Lee Christian Center near East
Troy, Wisconsin over the weekend of February 7 - 9, 2003.
They traveled by school bus, mini-van,
and cargo van (luggage). The theme of the weekend was "Wake
Up Call" which was a summons to hear Christ's Call
and to share it with others. A really rockin' Christian band
called Daniel's Window (http://www.danielswindow.com)
provided music throughout the weekend during chapel sessions
in the Cross Timbers Auditorium
and in a Saturday evening concert. Click here
to hear and see the band. Christian comedian David
Dean (http://www.davidpdean.com)
presented the Gospel in compelling talks filled with modern
stories and anecdotes blended with funny moments to help kids
feel at ease. Click here to hear
and see one of his funny moments. (Please note that the video
is sideways!) Click here for his
summary key thought from Sunday morning.
The group bunked down in Maple Hill
cabin for the boys and men,
and Holly House cabin for the girls and women. Meals were
taken cafeteria-style in the Redwood
Commons Dining Hall. First Presbyterian held small group
"breakout" discussions in the Sequoia
meeting room after each of the four chapel sessions to
pray and re-cap the message presented by Mr. Dean. Many recreational
activities were available: tubing,
tobagonning, ping
pong, foosball, torpedo
ball, horse back riding, ice skating, the
science center (were you could hold a live chintilla),
exploring the caboose cabins, tower
climb, and broomball. First Presbyterian
sponsored three broomball teams: First
Pres-A, First Pres-B, and First
Pres-C. Each team had at least three girls and three boys
on it. All three of our teams won their first round competition.
The B team won all four rounds and won
the camp-wide tournament and the camp trophy!
Congrats First Pres-B!
Thanks to Mrs. Slocum, Mrs. Van Oss,
Mrs. Krenicki, Mr. Kinsey, Mr. Gassensmith, Mr. Siemer, and
Mr. Richey for their leadership.
Our thanks to Peter Richey for the photos!
