The Three Wise Men - Epiphany Sunday
January 4, 2009
| On Epiphany Sunday, January 4, 2009, the sermon by Dr. Paul Kirbas, "The Three Gifts," focused on
the three particular gifts that were brought by the Magi. These gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh
have symbolic meaning, and foreshadow the life and ministry of this baby of
Bethlehem. The sermon can be heard or downloaded in mp3 format from our sermons page. A dramatization was provided at both the 8:40 and 11:00 a.m. worship services. |

The three wise men, from left to right,
are Balthazar (Jack Howser) bringing myrrh,
Gaspar (Mike Sammer) bringing gold, and Melchior (Finney Gilbert) bringing frankincense. They provided a dramatization of the visit and gifts, singing the verses of "We Three Kings of Orient Are,"
with the congregation and choir singing the refrain. |
Our thanks to John Herndon for the photo, Ann Herndon and Jane Wilson for creating the costumes, and the Worship Coordinating Committee for the information!
