Dear New Church Family,

It is with a deep sense of gratitude and joy that we have returned from our memorable weekend at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton. My whole family joins me in expressing our thanksgiving for the outpouring of love and hospitality that we experienced throughout the events of the day. I could feel the energy and vitality of the church in each worship service and in the receptions that followed. First Presbyterian Church is truly a church with a strong past, and a promising future.

Over the next several weeks, we will be making our transition to Wheaton in a couple of stages. As soon as we close on a house, Jennifer and the boys will be moving in so that they can be there in time for the beginning of school. I will stay back in Sarasota, as I finish out my time of ministry and service at the Church of the Palms. I will join the rest of my family, and begin my ministry with you, on September 10. I do want you to know that due to a standing commitment that I have to preach at the Ocean City Tabernacle in New Jersey, I will be away the following Sunday, September 17. Other than that, I have cleared my calendar of prior commitments, and am ready and eager to plunge into the exciting ministry that awaits me at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.

As I do begin my ministry with you, there is an important first priority to which I will attend. It is getting to know you! I want to spend time developing relationships with staff members, elders and deacons, and the entire church family. Strong relationships are the foundation of a successful journey between a pastor and a congregation. Although it may take some time, it is my hope and intention to become well acquainted with the members and families of the church. I look forward to the many occasions in which that will happen.

Together, we are standing at the door of a new era for the First Presbyterian Church. Let’s commit together to be in prayer for our church as we begin our shared ministry. As we do, I would love to hear your dream for this church, and the ways in which you would like to deepen your experience of service and faith. Again, thank you for the wonderful welcome that you provided to us on Sunday, August 6. We already feel a part of a warm and grace filled community of faith. Thanks be to God, and to the wonderful congregation of the First Presbyterian Church!

In God’s Love,

Paul J. Kirbas
