PW Mosquito Net Workshop - April 27, 2004

On Tuesday, April 27, 2004, Presbyterian Women enjoyed working together in Stewart Hall and participating in an important mission project that saves lives, the NetWorkers Malaria Prevention Program, during our second annual mosquito net workshop.

Malaria causes over two million deaths each year and is the leading cause of death among children under five in Africa as well as a major health threat to pregnant women.

Bed Net Our Presbyterian Women are involved in this program sewing bed nets, which are then sent overseas and treated with insecticide. Since mosquito bites occur primarily at night, the proper use of insecticide-treated bed nets can decrease the incidence of malaria by 65 percent.

Additional information about world service projects of PW is on our website, and details can be obtained from Phyllis Josephson at 630-668-5378. There is also additional information about the NetWorkers program online at http://www.pcusa.org/pcusa/wmd/health/brochures/women.htm.

During the workshop, in addition to working on the mosquito nets, participants also stuffed decorative pillows and animals for other PW mission projects.

Our thanks to Phyllis Josephson for the photos!
