| Wonderful music, beautiful weather,
food, and fellowship all combined to make
our annual trip to Ravinia a great success
again in 2004. A busload of First Presbyterian
members enjoyed a wonderful concert by the
Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia on
July 18, 2004. Violinist Erik Schumann,
of Ravinia Rising Star fame, made his Festival
debut essaying Dvorak's Violin Concerto
in A Minor, Op. 53; and Dimitri Maslennikov,
also in his Ravinia debut, performed Shostakovich's
Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op.
107. Rounding out the evening in fiery style
was the quintessential symphony, Beethoven's
Fifth, under the loving leadership of former
Ravinia music director Christoph Eschenbach.
