Worship leadership at our 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday,
July 15, 2007, was provided by the talented children who participated
in our SHINE program this summer.
SHINE (Strive High in New Experiences) was a new
music program at First Presbyterian Church held from June 3 through
July 15, 2007, during the Education "Hour" from 9:40 - 10:20 a.m. for
children just finishing kindergarten to 5th grade. SHINE
offers children an opportunity to strive in music and to learn more about the talent that God has given them, helping to bring each child
to the next level in his / her musical ability. The program
includes solo and ensemble singing, ensemble percussion playing, and basic
music theory for all the children. For those children in
the 3rd - 5th grade group who are currently taking
piano lessons, or play an instrument, or have other musical interests,
it can also include solo and ensemble piano playing, solo and
ensemble instrumental playing, and world music drumming ensemble.
We had ten participants in the kindergarten - 2nd
grade class that was led by Margo Nauert; and five participants
in the 3rd - 5th grade class led by David Lincoln. We also
had Georgia Hamilton assisting along with several parents – thank
you! Several
of the children are looking forward to creating a SHINE orchestra
in the future, and rehearsals for our next SHINE program will
begin on August 29, 2007.
K-2 SHINE participants were Jennifer Aalbue, Kimberly
Aalbue, Jaron Allen, Steven Beering, Stephanie Grabowski, Jacob
Hands, Adam Leonard, Simon Leonard, Jakob Lockard, and Andrea
Nauert.
3-5 SHINE participants were Elizabeth Aalbue, Heidi
Beering, Mari Bryant, Nathan Goodwin, and Susanna Lauber.
