Stations of Service
October 29, 2006
At our Stations of Service program in the Ministry Center
on October 29, 2006, church members and visitors were given
the opportunity to learn about many of our church committees,
the work done by each of them, and the many opportunities to
meet and connect with people at church by volunteering and becoming
involved.
Sponsored by our Pathways adult education
program, Stations of Service was held
during the education hour on Sunday morning, October 29, 2006,
the day after daylight savings time ended. Although it was
scheduled to last until 10:50 a.m., everyone exited the church
about 10:20 a.m. when the fire alarm sounded throughout the church
building. The ballast of
a light fixture in the eighth grade Sunday School classroom had
suddenly blown up, triggering sparks and a lot of smoke. The
Wheaton Fire Department arrived promptly and checked the
building so that everyone could reenter by about 10:45 a.m.,
in plenty of time for the 11:00 a.m. worship service to begin
on time.
Even though this was not scheduled as part of our morning
program, it did provide an excellent reminder for all of us to
change our smoke detector batteries along with our clocks, as
the media reminds us every year in October.
Rev. Dr. Paul J. Kirbas
was installed as Pastor/Head of Staff on Sunday afternoon,
October 29, 2006. A reception in Stewart Hall followed
the service.
