Pathways Stations of Service
October 29, 2006

Stations of Service, sponsored by our Pathways adult education program, was held in the Ministry Center during the education hour on Sunday morning, October 29, 2006, the day after daylight savings time ended.  The program provided an opportunity for our many church ministry committees to display and explain the work they do and the opportunities for other members to meet and connected with people at church by volunteering and becoming involved.

Although the program was scheduled to last until 10:50 a.m., everyone exited the church about 10:20 a.m. when the fire alarm sounded throughout the church building.  The ballast of a light fixture in the eighth grade Sunday School classroom had suddenly blown up, triggering sparks and a lot of smoke.  The Wheaton Fire Department arrived promptly and checked the building so that everyone could reenter by about 10:45 a.m., in plenty of time for the 11:00 a.m. worship service to begin on time.

Even though this was not scheduled as part of our morning program, it did provide an excellent reminder for all of us to change our smoke detector batteries along with our clocks, as the media reminds us every year in October.

Rev. Dr. Paul J. Kirbas was installed as Pastor/Head of Staff on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2006.  A reception in Stewart Hall followed the service.

Paul Luhrsen was available to provide information to people interested in helping "meet, greet, and seat" people attending church by becoming ushers.

Men's Breakfasts and Luncheons
Information about men's breakfasts (every Friday morning) and monthly men's luncheon programs was available provided by Harold Crittenden.
Sunday School students (on the right) and adults from the Stations of Service Pathways Program (below) all exited the church when the fire alarm sounded. After learning from the eighth grade students what happened, that the sparks and smoke came from the ballast of a light fixture, everyone could relax and enjoy the lovely fall morning for a few minutes.
