Youth Sunday - May 18, 2008
|
On Youth Sunday, May 18, 2008, all three services were conducted by the high school
students of First Presbyterian Church. The 7:30 a.m. service was in the Sanctuary,
while the two later services were in the Ministry Center. The graduating high
school seniors were blessed, and the West Virginia mission trip team was commissioned,
at the 8:40 a.m. service. Our high school freshman were confirmed at the 11:00
a.m. service. The messages presented by nine of our
high school seniors can be heard and downloaded as mp3 files.
The messages at the 7:30 a.m. service were presented by Lauren Spehr and J. L.
Calderwood. Derrick Rohl played the piano, and Patrick Stremel played the guitar. The
vocalists were Allison Van Oss, Meg Iliff, and Cassidy Drew.
The youth wore their green "vine and branches" shirts during the 7:30
and 8:40 a.m. services. They posed outside between the 8:40 and 11:00 a.m.
services, first in their green shirts and then in the dressier clothing they wore
for the 11:00 a.m. service.

| WF (Westminster Fellowship) is the Senior High youth group at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton. All year WF events have centered around the theme "The Vine and the Branches: Depending on God." |
|
The large screen in the Ministry Center showed "Youth Sunday 2008. Welcome
to Worship!" when everyone arrived at the service. It was used near the
beginning of the services to show a Vine and Branches slide show dedicated to Jonathan
Sneed, our friend who would have been a graduating senior with us but who died
unexpectedly on Thursday, August 3, 2006.
The screen was also used to show the words to the songs sung together with the
congregation as well as our WF
video presentation based on Micah 6:8 that had been entered
in the YMILIVE Video Challenge with a chance to win $25,000 for the church youth
group.
